Jack and Kitty have been the great pretenders recently. Last night after bathtime, they went on an expedition to the South Pole. This involved dragging blankets in to the hallway and 'sleeping.' Thom and I were in our room and would overhear snatches of conversation that went like this:
J: Isn't it cold here at the South Pole?
K: Yes.
J: It's time to go to bed...
K: Okay.
J: Our bed is in the middle of train tracks and a train might come. You have to move over to the side.
K: Okay... now I move back to the middle!
It was so cute, so endearing to watch. Yesterday we spent an hour and 1/2 at the pool with some friends. Jack was splashing and jumping, laughing and swimming the whole time we were there. At bedtime, he and I were cuddling on my bed and talking and I asked him what his favorite part of the day was. He said he didn't know, but the spending 'ALL DAY' at the pool had really made him tired. I pointed out the it hadn't been 'ALL DAY,' but he retorted, "It just felt like ALL DAY." He was so, so tired... as one can only be after intense exercise or a session at the pool with friends.
The other day I was making armor for Jack out of cardboard. My first prototype was done and I fit it on him and I asked him who he thought he looked like. He said, "I look like a boy in a cardboard box." There were adjustments and a helmet made and then he agreed he looked like a knight.
On another note, I've been hearing on the TV and radio this annoying Jonas Brothers cover of the Beatles 'Hello Goodbye.' It annoys me because a) it is used in an ad for Target (damn you Michael Jackson!), b) very teeny-bopper sounding and c) will make a whole generation think that the Jonas Brothers wrote the song. Every time I hear it I do an internal shudder.
