Jack had a lot of fun yesterday with watercolors (as seen above.)
After Kitty woke up from her nap, we were sitting at the kitchen table: Jack in his red chair and Kitty in the high chair. Jack said to me, "I don't know what time Kitty is going to be a big girl." I explained it happens slowly over time. He then said, "When Kitty grows up, she'll have to listen to me!" I was a little shocked at this proclamation and launched in to a 5 minute dialog about how Jack and Kitty will have to listen to each other, respect each other and work together through any differences they might have. I was feeling rather proud of myself for setting my expectations for their sibling relationship while Jack was apparently listening so intently. When I was done, there was a pause and Jack said, "Sometimes we can make pizza... Uncle Alan makes pizza!" thus deflating my parenting bubble. Jack had totally zoned me out and was thinking pizza thoughts while I was waxing rhapsodical.
Jack and Kitty had a combined Dr's visit yesterday: her 9 month and his 3 year. Both kids are doing well... the only (slight) concern is that Kitty is in the 16% for weight... our Dr. wants us to boost her caloric intake by giving her table food. Kitty seems pleased with this development: yesterday she downed 1/2 a TV dinner of Mac and Cheese. She's changing overnight it seems... just last week she would stay where you put her down... now she is commando crawling (looking like she's going under razor wire) and pivoting in place. Whenever she starts her belly on the floor scooching, I mentally hum the 'Mission:Impossible' theme to myself.
I sign off with a picture of Jack conked out on the sofa on Thursday... does this position look comfortable to you?
