Perhaps your garage door is broken. Perhaps you buy parts to fix it. Perhaps your wife comes out to the garage to help. Perhaps you decide to close the door of the garage to see the problem better. Yes, that last decision was a mistake. The door was impossible to lift from the inside. It seemed really funny until repeated tries failed as well. Thom called the house three times and finally Jack picked up. Which was good, because Thom's cell phone was dying.
Thom- It's dad.
Jack- Dad?
Thom- Yes. Mom and I are locked in the garage.
Jack- Locked in the garage?
Thom- Yes, locked in the garage. I need you to come out and help us.
Jack- Help you?
Thom- Yes, help us.
Jack- Okay!
Thom had a theory that part of the outside lock was hitting something and getting stuck. Jack and Kitty both came out and it turned out the lock theory had been false. Thom managed to get the door up 12" or so. I held the door up while Thom shimmied through the impossibly small space under the garage door. It was frightening because I knew if I dropped the door it could seriously injure him. But I didn't and he wasn't so all was well. Once Thom got the door up the kids told us how scared they had been. Our next plan of action would have been having Jack go to our next door neighbor's house for help. Whew!
Kitty has become an amazing gymnast recently. She goes back and forth across the monkey bars so many times it makes my arms ache just looking at her. She had to stop for a bit because she had blisters on her hands pop... but I guess that is par for the course. She has had amazing determination through the whole learning process. She would fall and then would go right back up. Not a comment from her... just falling and getting right back up. I often watch 'Oprah' while Thom takes the kids to the playground, but Kitty made sure I was coming so she could show me what she can do. I was (am) very proud to see her in action.
Kitty has been getting together with a friend of hers from Kindergarten, Ella. Here they are:
